A perfect evening

So, I think that Spring is finally here… hopefully. I got back this evening, it was a perfect 72º, partly cloudy but plenty of sun, a slight cool breeze in air. Everyone else was at karate, so I jumped on my bike and went for a good half hour, maybe 45 minute ride at this nice park trail close to our house. Got back, pulled out a Propel, and chilled on the porch while I cooled off a little. It was perfect out.

There was this dad riding a bike down our street with a trailer attached to the back. I couldn’t see inside but just assumed someone was in there. I looked up and noticed him as he was turning the corner shouting, “WooHoo!” All the while ringing one of those bicycle bells. I watched him until he was out of sight and started laughing out loud. I guess I wasn’t the only one enjoying he evening with a little bike ride.

Spring is sweet. I wish it would last longer than it does around here. In the mean time, it’s nice to be able to enjoy it a little.

Home?

Holy crap! Why didn’t someone remind me to call yesterday! I totally could have too. Got home, took Nick to karate, didn’t have cub scouts last night and didn’t go work out like I usually do. I so could have gone all E.T. and phoned home. So… is he home? Did he make it? Is he stuck in the South? Did he decide to stay another transfer? Now I’m stuck at work (shhh, don’t tell anyone) and won’t be home until… well… who knows today (work straight to class, straight to pack meeting, straight to basketball), not till early tomorrow morning (as in 12:30am or later).

Either way, if you’re home bro. then WELCOME HOME! And if you’re not, I suppose I’ll find out soon enough.

The missing photos

Who knows what the heck these two are doing. Seeing who can touch their nose with their tongue? Maybe catching mosquitos? Your guess is as good as mine. Taken 5 September 2006, at 4:35pm. And what do you know? Just realized it’s Leap Year Day… or… whatever. How many times do you get to post on February 29th? (And Matt… we all know once every 4 years… you don’t have to tell us)

;)

All about the cold

So, this weekend I called Nicholas a ‘Northman’. Told him I was kind of proud of it as in this regard he is somewhat taking after me. And what does he do to earn this title? He likes to go around in the Michigan winter claiming he doesn’t need his coat. Often, we’ll make him take it with him, but then he never really puts it on, he just drapes the hood over the top of his head and lets the coat hang down his back. Even yesterday, when going to church, it was below 5º, wind chill around -20º, I’m sure sure he would have preferred to leave his coat in the car.

When I picked him up from karate this evening, it was a balmy 8º. I asked him half jokingly where his coat was, and I was surprised when he actually said he left it inside and we had to go back and get it. I said, “I’m surprised you even have it.”

To which he responded that he had meant to leave it in the car but he just forgot. And did he put it on as we walked back out? Nope. Said he didn’t need it. I said, “Dude, it’s like 8º.”

He replied, “Feels more like 30º to me.” As if 30º is some heat wave or something.

Little Artist

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a new link under the Blogroll section on the right. It’s actually the very first one under that section.

This is hopefully the first small step in getting some of Ashlee’s creations actually produced and stuff. She’s done some really cool things. Some of you may or may not know that she’s authored and illustrated several of her own books too.

So check out her blog and enjoy!

Two For Two

Merry Christmas to all our friends and family!!!

And FYI, we are now 2 for 2 on the winter snow storm/white Christmas thingy. Yeah, thought be could escape it by coming out West but nope. Were present for the afternoon smashing of snow up here in the Wasatch. Pretty cool for the kiddos actually!

Anyway, have a wonderful Christmas Day. We look forward to speaking to some of you later today!

White Christmas

OK, so for those of you reading the ‘Winter Blast Pummels the Northeast’, yeah, we’re sort of part of that. Started yesterday evening, not supposed to stop until 7 tonight. And I just looked out the window… yep, still snowing. I’m trying to decide if I should go out right now and take care of what’s on the ground now, or if I should just leave it for tonight after it’s all done. Now having said that, we’ve had worse storms before. There’s only about 4 or 5 inches right now, with that same amount expected by this evening, all told 8-12 total when it’s over. We are getting pummeled with calls that church is cancelled for today, and we’re the 1-4 group.

It is nice for the kiddlings though, they woke up to a lot of snow. On top of that, they’re leaving for Utah on Wednesday, so Santa came last night so they could have some Christmas at home. We spent the morning opening presents, of course Nick and Ashlee were both lucky to get the main thing they’ve been asking for since we even started thinking about Christmas gifts. So they’re busy playing right now. Becky’s busy making breakfast, and I’m ‘busy’ fiddling around on the computer.

Merry Christmas everyone! We look forward to seeing most of you in a few days. :)

Rise & SHOUT!

WOOOHOOO!!!

17-10! BYU Wins! BYU Wins! Undefeated in Mountain West play two years straight! Josh, please tell me you were at this game. There’s nothing like winning with under a minute two years in a row (except for winning like fifty something to hardly anything and you only threw like 10 passes and racked up like 7,000 yards of rushing, that was a good game too). I so wished I lived in SLC right now (I may regret saying that later), just to rub it in. Good thing we’re in PA, and Nat has Dish, I was flipping through channels and was glad the game was on one of them.

Wait, I think I just heard the announcer at the stadium say something about revoking recommends for anyone who ran onto the field. Wait, there’s Josh… get out of there Josh, or at least cover your face so they can’t record you!!!

Are you ready for some football?!

Here’s how we celebrated opening day of the pro football season (and I’m not counting that one game that was out of the country). Nothing like a game of tackle in the front yard. It’s always me and Ashlee against Nicholas. Nick holds his own pretty good, and Ashlee usually has to be reminded which end zone she should run to.

NFL Opening Day

Make sure you read Becky’s post about this evening if you haven’t already.

Ashlee Starts School

OK, I’ve finally sat down and have begun to attempt to get somewhat caught up. I’ve pretty much given up keeping up with Becky, she’s going to attain ‘professional’ blogger status any day now. Make sure you’re visiting her site often as she’s doing a great job of capturing our comings and goings.

Here are the long awaited pictures from Ashlee and Nick’s first day of school this year.

First Day of School 2007

Ashlee started Kindergarten, she goes a full day every day of the week, just like ‘real’ school. Nick started 3rd grade and is in a split class where half are 3rd graders and half are 4th graders. We think it’s working out really well for him even though only one of his friends is in the same class as he is this year.

So there’s a start, hopefully at least a couple more posts before the weekend is over.
