For the Horde!

Some of you may remember the email I sent out a couple of years ago talking about World of Warcraft while I was testing it out during it’s beta period. Well, almost two years later, I’ve finally purchased the game and started playing again. I don’t play as often as I did during the beta (family, work, school) but it’s still pretty fun. The expansion is set to come out next month. And I think because of the expansion, the original only costs $20 now. A couple of you should purchase the game so we can all get on at the same time. If any of you are thinking about it, let me know, I can get you a guest pass and all.

Where will you find me? I’m on the Duskwood server. My main character is Torgall, a Tauren hunter. Now go get the game and start playing!

‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin killed

I sad bit of news I came across while surfing the web this evening. Steve Irwin, the ‘Crocodile Hunter’, died today while filming off the coast of Australia. Becky and I love watching his shows and it’s always sad to see such a positive and excitable individual go. Here’s some links to some stories and pictures (via BBC):

Scale Model of a Chinese Landscape

I came across this a couple of weeks ago. It’s pretty interesting how big this scale model is of the existing landscape. I’ve seen similar things like this standing upright on boards(?) at one of the AFBs in Phoenix (Williams I think?), but not on this large of a scale. The ones I’ve seen were indeed used as landscape models for the flight simulators.

Security Update 2006-003

So I just got around to updating the iMac and iBook with Security Update 2006-003 for OS X (10.3.9). And I have found an excellent “side effect” of the update. The update contains fixes and updates to Apple’s WebKit, which is the technology that Safari uses to render web pages. As those of you know who like to use Safari to create posts on our blog (like I do, you can’t beat OS X’s built in spell checker that works in Safari but not Firefox), Panther’s version of Safari didn’t used to display the helpful authoring buttons found just below the Title area when creating a post. Well, as seen by the picture below, those buttons now show up correctly after applying Security Update 2006-003.

WordPress Post screen

So if you are running 10.3.9 and like to use Safari to post to our blog, what are you waiting for? Download and apply the update to see what all those Firefox users have seen for a while now.

! UPDATE – 8 JUL !

Scratch this whole post, I got up this morning and noticed that the buttons weren’t showing up anymore. Oh well, back to the choice for posting, check as you type spell checker (Safari), or buttons (Firefox or Opera, Opera’s latest release is pretty cool if you’d like to try an alternative browser).

Test Your Blindspot

I think I remember hearing/learning about everyone’s natural blindspot before, but I’m not sure. Either way, taking the Blindspot Test was pretty surprising to me just to notice that a blindspot exits. When you take the test, start in close to the screen and move away slowly. Also, if you are looking at the dot on the right, you need to cover your right eye. Conversely, if you are looking at the dot on the left, cover your left eye. You can learn more about the whys and how comes as well as finding out how big your blindspot is and where it’s located in your field of vision from the Mapping Your Blindspot article.
