So everybody dust off your band skills. (Except Ti, who for some reason was exempt from the band mandate. What’s up with that Ti? So what if you sang. So did Melissa. And piano? Please! Exactly how many piano concerts/recitals did you have? FAVORITE BABY! FAVORITE BABY!) Anyway, I digress.
Some time ago I sent Laurie this link, thinking how fun it would be to do something like this in FHE someday. With our fourth on the way, we have just the right number. Then I saw this and set my sights higher. But with that number of people, it’ll never happen until our kids have kids and we did it at a family reunion.
Then I thought, hey I come from a family that could play circles around those VonTrapp amateurs! (And Ti, you could play piano, since Melissa has other options and Mom has an accordian.) Does this NOT look like a ton of fun to anyone out there?
We’d probably have to get kids and spouses involved too, if they’re up for it. Nick could wail on that violin solo, eh? We could do classics, spirituals, or whatever. (I’m telling you, if you don’t click on each link and watch the whole thing you’re missing out!) Billy’s got dibs on the ‘bone, but due to other needs elsewhere, there can only be one trumpeteer (kind of like Highlander), so you guys will have to figure it out.
So who wants what?
Joe can play the kazoo!! Way to bury the lead Justin – congrats on your fourth!! Anyone want to be our surrogate? JK, kinda. ;-p
Yeah, we’re expecting a girl in mid-September. We didn’t want to necessarily publish it until we knew for sure, you know…..that she’s…..human. I hear some people wait a while to let people know in case the baby is silly or something. Not sure what happens after they find out, but along that vein we were probably going to announce her birth somewhere around her fourth birthday, just to be sure.
Which reminds me, did you ever hear about our son Elijah? Jury is still out on that one, so we’ve kind of kept him under wraps as well.
I call dibs on the guy that gets to shove all the stuff off the mantel (I can’t belive no one has claimed this yet). There was a time when I could probably hit those trumpet notes (2nd link). I’d have to play again for several months though to hit those now.
Even higher notes are in their John Henry rendition, nice banjo and slide guitar too:

And now curse you Justin, I found myself clicking all the links for the Seeger Sessions on YouTube. Screw it, I’m going to go see if our library has the dvd.
Some video game mates I know did a parody of the 12 Days of Christmas dispite nobody really living anywhere close. Basically, one of the guys recorded the main music track and wrote the lyrics. He then posted it. And anyone that wanted could record their own vocals or their own instrument track. Sent it all back to him, and he pieced it all together. It was pretty cool.
We should try to get something like that together, that would be cool.
