Came across this interesting article about making the world of Windows act more like OS X. This article doesn’t focus on making Windows look like OS X. It’s mostly written to help someone who is used to the way OS X does things be more productive on in a Windows environment.
Best Tool For the Job » Make Your PC Work (not look) More Like a Mac
Hey Jer,
What’s the difference between a Combo Drive and a Super Drive (for example, it makes a $200 difference in buying an iBook)? Just curious…
A Combo drive can burn & play CDs, but can only play or read DVDs.
A SuperDrive can burn & play both CDs and DVDs.
Also, make sure you looking at the Apple Store for Education when shopping. Prices are cheaper. There’s a link (I think on the right side) called “Education”. Click that and enter your information (I’d use BYU) and it will get you to the Education store.
So, if I were going to buy a computer, well, when I eventually buy a computer, what would you recommend?
I’d recommend getting a SuperDrive. The only reasons I didn’t get one in my iBook is because our iMac has one (Mom’s eMac has one also) and also one isn’t offered with the 12″ iBooks. There are external options though also. You can get an external Firewire DVD burner for around $80-$100, which is less than Apple’s $200 upgrade.
Having said that, if you’re getting a laptop, I’d get a SuperDrive, Bluetooth, Airport Extreme, and as big a hard drive as I could afford.
It’s also speculated that the iBooks are way overdue for an update. New models should be coming out soon. Of course no one knows how soon, it could be anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
